From Pale Blue Dot
| June 27th, 2011“For me, the most ironic token of that moment in history is the plaque signed by President Richard M. Nixon that Apollo 11 took to the moon. It reads: ‘We come in peace for all mankind.’ As the United States was dropping 7-1/2 megatons of conventional explosives on small nations in Southeast Asia, we congratulated ourselves on our humanity: We would harm no one on a lifeless rock.”
-Carl Sagan
I guess Carl Sagan never learned about what happened in Vietnam after the U.S. pulled out.
When the U.S. exited Vietnam over 1.8 million South Vietnamese were slaughtered in execution centers and re-education camps. The Communist Khmer Rouge regime murdered over 3 million Cambodians in massive killing fields after the U.S. exit.
It was the worst genocidal event since the holocaust. But, no one ever really likes to talk about that…. I guess because Oliver Stone never made a movie about that part.
